When I first expressed an interest in the mag world, a friend who worked in the industry suggested I not even try – because it was way too hard to break in. I scored a job four weeks later. In a way it was fate. My mum worked in fashion, I loved writing and was obsessed with beauty products. Working at CLEO is amazing. Once a year we travel to an exotic location to shoot summer beauty, plus I get to see every beauty product before they hit the stores and meet the inspirational people behind the brands.

Testing for the Australian Beauty Awards is harder than you think. I’ve had to go about it with military precision so I don’t undo all my good work – i.e. I have to make sure body scrubs are tested before self-tanners so skin is prepped and I don’t remove the tan.

Then, so I can compare fairly, I’ve had to divide the scrubs into tubs and tubes, sugar and salt formulations. The self-tanners are harder to compare because there are more application variations -- clear sprays, tinted creams, mousses and gradual tanners.

Right now I have one very golden leg and one chocolate brown one – results from a multiple testing session. If you want to know more about the awards jump on to the new website www.beautyawards.com.au.
