A new study has found that men who are unfaithful to their partners are likely to have lower IQ. (No offence, Tiger)

In a finding that may have proved what some of us have long suspected – men who cheat on their partners are apparently "less evolved" than those who embrace monogamous relationships.

Dr Satoshi Kanazawa, an evolutionary psychologist from the London School of Economics and Political Science believes that the smarter a man is, the less likely he will be unfaithful.

His reasoning is that sexual exclusivity is an "evolutionary novel" development for men – a practice which would've gone against the grain for human ancestors.

Kanazawa asserted that early men are programmed to be "mildly polygamous", with a goal of spreading genes. He argues that intelligent men are able to evolve beyond the "psychological baggage" of their species and adopt new practices and values.

"As the empirical analysis ... shows, more intelligent men are more likely to value monogamy and sexual exclusivity than less intelligent men," he concluded.

On the other hand, there is no correlation found between women's intelligence and fidelity in Kanazawa's study – as monogamy has always been the social norm for women, and is not new in evolutionary terms.
